Can you imagine making a cantilever from spaghetti??!!

Yes. We did it in our class this week !!

Cantilever Exercise:

We started by dividing into three groups and proceeded processes for building the longest cantilever by a roll of tape, 2 sheets of A4paper and spaghetti without its end touching the floor.

The processes includes:

1. Brainstorming: Creating three/four principles among group members, e.g. initially quiet, don't judge at first and all ideas are equal

2. Design

3. Re-design

4. Build

5. Repair

Through the Cantilever exercise, we also implemented the Guindon’s designing the design process study to illustrate the Design Activity Graph. The graph shows the development of the ideas in the group. Each member took turn every five minute to be an observer and mark the points indicating level of development in the Design Activity Graph.

1. Scenario thinking

2. Requirement thinking

3. High level solution thinking/building

4. Medium level solution thinking/building

5. Low level solution thinking/building

This exercise was to assess how people in the group differently engage in solving the open-ended problem in the design work.
